Amon, a millwright, presented his wife with a _Diary, Memorandum Book, and Almanac, for 1857 ..._ (Concord, N.H.: J.A. Merriam & Rufus Merrill, [1856]). The diary, inscribed "Rosina R.H. Moore A present from my Husband Jan 1st 1857," contains full daily descriptions for the period 1 January to 1 April 1857. The entries concern the weather, activities of family members, visits, church services, and illnesses. There are quite a few entries concerning death including mentions of the deaths of church members and acquaintances, and of the recent deaths of her mother-in-law, father, and father-in-law. There are also entries concerning her involvement with the sabbath school, the sewing circle, and the Ladies' Benevolent Society. The entry of 4 March mentions the inauguration of James Buchanan (1791-1868). Towards the end of the diary there is a short list of items purchased by Rosina during the period 7 January to 28 March 1857. Though she was surrounded by family and friends, Rosina often found herself depressed and lonely due to her husband's constant trips to Meriden for business. Her entry of 16 March mentions a possible move to Meriden, "... Amon left for Meriden at noon shall decide this week about going there to live." The entry of 21 March confirms this, "... rec'd news from Husband deciding that we are to move to Meriden ..." The last entry is on 1 April, the day before the move.
